FGF5 Genetics

The Full Story

The FGF5 gene is no different then a short haired corgi's genes other then the fact it carries one or two of the LH gene this in the Pembroke Welsh Corgis is rare because it isn't caused by cross-breeding with other breeds such as seen in Cardigan Corgis it simply in a way comes down to evolution in certain colder climates this breed progressed to inherit this gene to keep themselves warm when herding animals during harsher weather. So because inheriting this gene doesn't effect their direct ancestorial lines therefore their background is the same as the Pembroke Welsh corgi so it is to safe to say we can begin with where the Pembroke Welsh corgi originates from in history.

This ancient breed is a well known world-wide due to being Queen Elizabeth's favorite companion and well who doesn't love their toast loaves or even seeing them on the internet for laughs, it's easy to say that this is a breed who has captured and warmed the hearts of many world-wide.

The breed originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales several centuries ago dating back in history books to at least the 10th century by the 1850's almost every farm in Wales owned a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. This intelligent breed with their short statue were widely used to heard cattle and other livestock animals due to the fact they were small enough to stay out of the kicking cattle's way and rarely be harmed. It wasn't until the 13th century when the sheep farming craze struct Wales that there was a need for a larger herding dog the Border Collie which demoted this little hard working herder to the couch potato family pet we know and love today.
